Tennis coaching experience
Michael Jefferies is a Senior Club Coach (Level 4) and has over 10 years of experience as a coach working in a variety of different situations and with all ages and abilities. His career began at the Amida club in Beckenham before moving on to coach tennis at various clubs in the Woking area. He has coached at Woking Lawn Tennis Club, Wishell Tennis Club, Horsell Tennis Club, Winston Churchill Tennis club, Pit Farm, The Bourne Club in Farnham, and he has also coached tennis at schools in the area including Halstead and St Andrews as well as private houses in Guildford.
Most recently, Michael was Head Coach at Merrow Tennis Club for 7 years where he ran the junior and adult tennis coaching programme. Michael coached junior group sessions, squad and performance players, adult drills, Cardio Tennis, beginner and improver courses as well as individual lessons for all ages and levels. After many hours spent on court finding ways to help people improve their game, Michael has decided to use this experience to set up Tiger Tennis to bring together his own unique approach to coaching tennis and working with children.
Michael is passionate about coaching tennis and loves the challenge of finding ways to communicate the essence of tennis to people of all ages that will connect with them and spark their improvement and further their tennis journey.
As a junior Michael played for Buckinghamshire and was ranked in the top 5 in the county. He also played for the High Wycombe Tennis Clubs’ first team as a junior and then later for the various clubs he coached at.
Music performance and teaching
Michael is also a keen musician and flautist. He has a music degree from Surrey University as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in performance from Trinity College of Music in London. He currently teaches the flute at Hoe Bridge school, Woking, Wellington College in Hampshire and Peter Symonds College in Winchester.
Michael has played at a variety of venues throughout the country and has played recitals with piano, chamber music, orchestral music and for weddings and functions. In 2005 he and his wife played for two months aboard the prestigious cruise ship called The World whilst sailing around the Carribean. An amazing experience where Michael even got to play tennis with some of the guests on the tennis court on the top deck of the ship! When time allows Michael still performs recitals as a duo with piano or as a trio with piano and cello, a combination he particularly enjoys.
Michael was born in Durban, South Africa but has lived in the UK for many years. Michael now lives in Woking with his wife and two young children and when not coaching he can often be found racing cars, building Lego or chasing after them scooting along the canal path!
